Epic Games Store offers up Godfall Challenger Edition and Prison Architect for free

Source: Gearbox (L) & Introversion Software (R)

From today until December 17, it doesn’t matter if you are a gamer who likes fast-paced hack-and-slash action or methodical planning, the free games offered on Epic Games Store will scratch either itch with Godfall Challenger Edition and Prison Architect.

Godfall Challenger Edition was recently just released and lets you jump straight into the endgame modes, Lightbringer, Dreamstones, and Ascended Tower of Trials, skipping the main campaign and initial grind. All three modes can either be played solo or with friends. In Lightbringer, you will take on hordes of enemies to unlock rewards. Dreamstones is where you will experience parts of the story in the main campaign but encounters will be randomised. Finally, the Ascended Tower of Trials will have you facing off against ever-increasing odds as you fight to make your way to the top of the tower.

The Challenger Edition also features plenty of new cosmetics for you to unlock and a quest system that provides new challenges with legendary gear as rewards. If you love customisation and creating various builds for your looter-shooters/slashers, you will be able to go straight to Player Level 50, giving you an array of skill points and weapons.

On the other side of the fence is Prison Architect, a private prison construction and management simulation designed for gamers who prefer games that require strategy and planning. Released back in 2015, this top-down 2D game lets you build and manage your own maximum security prison to house the most hardened criminals.

You will have to build facilities, connect utilities, hire and manage staff while also keeping a close eye on the prison’s finances. Your prison will then be graded by an in-game report taking into account various factors such as overall happiness, violence levels within the prison and more. But if there are riots, deaths or wrongful executions, you can be fired from your role.

Happy’s Humble Burger Farm is a game made up of a strange mix of ingredients

Developed by the Scythe Dev Team and published by tinyBuild, Happy Humble’s Burger Farm is a horror adventure cooking sim that sounds like an odd mix but actually ends up being a surprisingly good mix of genres.

Set in the fictional New Elysian City, Happy Humble’s Burger Farm you play as an individual that has lost your memory. All you remember is that you have to report for your shift prepping the grill for a night of burgers, fries, and unexplainable terrors and oddities such as flickering lights, moving statues and a creature that has a craving for a putrid patty.

Throughout your shift, you will also have to complete tasks such as unclogging toilets, eliminating rodents and thwarting maniacal figures messing with your shift. If you commit too many infractions, you will then be forced to meet the wrath of Happy the Humble Heifer, an unforgiving mascot that will tear you apart.

On top of that, you will also need to uncover the dark secrets of the city’s biggest business and regain your memory by collecting hidden tapes and scattered research papers around the seemingly abandoned buildings and empty corners of the metropolis.

As previously mentioned, Wytchwood is a crafting adventure game and is set in an expressive land of gothic fables and fairytales brought to life in a beautiful storybook art style. You play as the mysterious old witch of the woods and you will explore a strange countryside, collect magical ingredients, brew sorcerous enchantments and pass twisted judgement upon a colourful cast of characters and creatures.

Throughout your time in Wytchwood, you will gather, collect, grow and craft bizarre ingredients such as toxic toadstools, eye of newt and bottled fear. You will also research and concoct devious spells and sorceries that turn the greedy into frogs and curse the wicked. Last but not least, you will also have to use your wit and guile to solve puzzles to best the strange monsters of the forest.

Freelance police Sam & Max are back and looking better than ever

Last year, Skunkape Games brought us Sam & Max: Save the World Remastered and this time, just weeks away from Christmas, the team have released Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space Remastered. The original game released in 2007/2008 was the recipient of the Adventure Game of the Year award from IGN, PC Gamer, and Adventure Gamers.

In Beyond Time and Space, our titular freelance police duo set out on another bizarre adventure that goes from the North Pole to the Fountain of Youth, from outer space to Hell and back. Along the way, zombies will dance. Mariachis will sing. A giant battle robot will trash the streets and Sam & Max will risk their very souls to set things right.

This remastered version features overhauled lighting and graphics, re-encoded audio, eight new musical tracks, and a ton of tweaks, enhancements and Easter eggs. Much like the original the game has five episodes filled with laughs and madcap adventures.

From now until December 21, the Sam & Max Save the World + Beyond Time and Space Bundle on Steam will have a 25% discount. If you already own Save the World, purchasing the bundle will still give you a 25% discount off Beyond Time and Space.

6Souls tells the tale of one dog and his faithful man

Source: Ratalaika Games

Indie publisher Ratalaika Games and developer BUG-Studio’s retro action platformer 6Souls has finally been released and is now available on Steam. The side-scrolling platformer is inspired by old-school platformers and will delight retro fans with its creative and retro-styled puzzle jaunt to fight monsters, defeat bosses, untangle a web of tricky confrontations and brain-teasing events.

In 6Souls, you follow the adventures of Jack and his faithful dog Butch who find a map that leads them to an abandoned castle of the Clifford family, so they eagerly make their way in search of possible treasure.

However, it quickly becomes obvious that getting to the castle will not be as easy as they thought. The castle’s bridge collapses and they fall into the castle’s basement where they meet the very first soul, who asks for help. The story of 6Souls unfolds over 10 main chapters made up of more than 80 level in the normal game mode, and more than 120 levels in the difficult mode. These levels are filled with the standard fare of poisonous gas, gusts of wind and bosses.

Throughout their quest to find a way to the treasure and escape from the castle, Jack and Butch will have to take turns to solve puzzles that the other might not be able to accomplish. For example, Butch is able to crawl through narrow passages, is faster, more agile and is able to double jump. Butch even has his very own “stealth” section.
