Embrace the Nightmare in DARQ: Complete Edition

Source: Unfold Games

As Halloween draws ever closer, the Epic Games Store is set on sending chills down gamers’ spines with yet another free game in the horror genre. This week, you get to redeem DARQ: Complete Edition, a psychological horror game by Unfold Games that has received 12 awards and nominations including “Best Adventure Game” and “Best Game Music” at Chainsaw Festival 2020, “Best Game Award” at MIX / PAX West 2018, and “42nd most shared PC game of 2019” on Metacritic.

This award-winning game takes you on a journey with Lloyd, a boy who finds himself in the middle of a lucid nightmare. Each attempt to wake up has him sinking deeper into his lucid, subconscious-driven dreams. In these nightmares, Lloyd has to face his fears and decipher the meaning of the dream. He learns to control the dream by bending the laws of physics, manipulating the environment in the most unexpected ways, and solving puzzles that defy the rules of logic.

The Complete Edition of the game comes with two DLCs, The Tower and The Crypt. In both DLCs, Lloyd once again wakes up to find himself in both these locations that are filled with many new mysteries, puzzles, and creepy creatures.

Remaster of Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is Set to Give You Sleepless Nights

Fatal Frame is a Japanese survival horror video game series by Koei Tecmo that draws on staple elements of Japanese horror and is well-loved by fans of the horror genre for its jump-scares and also intriguing stories.

While the series has been on somewhat of a hiatus, fans can let out shrieks of joy as the remaster of 2014’s Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water has finally been released to terrorise the unexpecting gamer.

This enhanced version of the title celebrates the series’ 20th anniversary and includes enhanced visuals, a brand-new Photo Mode, and a selection of new costumes and accessories for the three protagonists. Those who purchase the game within the first two weeks from launch will be entitled to a special Ryza costume – inspired by the one featured in the first Atelier Ryza title – allowing Yuri to don the popular alchemist’s outfit and hat.

In the latest entry to the series, the story unfolds on Mt. Hikami, infamously known as the ‘mountain of death’, where bizarre and unfortunate occurrences take place. The story follows three characters drawn to the mountain: Yuri Kozukata, Ren Hojo, and Miu Hinasaki – whose stories are interwoven in a mysterious and dream-like tale.

Similar to previous Fatal Frame games, you are only equipped with a flashlight and the mysterious Camera Obscura that is able to repel vengeful ghosts. With this camera, you will have to snap photos of spirits once they are clearly in frame causing them to release Spirit Fragments. Throughout the story, the Camera Obscura can be upgraded with stronger lenses and different film types, allowing you to stand a better chance against the mountain’s malevolent spirits.

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is available for purchase on Steam. There is a Digital Deluxe Edition available which comes with the 20th Anniversary Digital Artbook and six costume sets from past protagonists.
